Sarat Chandra Debo (1911-1972) was born in the royal family of Chikiti, Ganjam, Odisha in 1911. He had taken admission in Heatherley School of Fine Art London in 1934. He went to Government School of Art and Crafts, Khallikote in 15/09/1957 as the first Principal after inspection of this Art School by the Govt. of Odisha. He retired on 31/12/1966 and died in 1972.

Muralidhar Tali (1918-1997) Dharmapada Awardee was born in the village of Mahantipada, Sambalpur, Odisha in 1918. He had taken admission in Govt. School of Art and Crafts Kolkata in Painting and Graphic Art. He went to Cuttack in 1946 and began his career as a designer in the Industrial Dept. (Crafts Section) in 1948 and finally joined in the Handloom and Textile Dept. Govt. of India in 1957 and retired as an Asst. Director in design from the Weavers Service Centre, Bhubaneswar in 1975 and died in 1997.

Ajit Keshari Ray (1922-2012) Dharmapada Awardee was born in the village of Sakhigopal, Puri, Odisha in 1922. After completion of senior Cambridge examination from Dehradun Public School in 1938, studied fine art and crafts at Kalabhavan, Santiniketan (1940-45), did specialisation course in stone carving, modelling and graphic art in Anglo French Art Centre, London and returned India in 1951. He joined as lecturer in Indian painting at Govt. School of Art and Crafts, Khallikote and retired as Principal (1967-1980) in 30.11.1980 and died in 2012.

Bipra Charan Mohanty (1927-2009) Dharmapada Awardee was born in the village of Nanapur, Jajpur, Odisha in 1927. He went to Government School of Art and Crafts, Kolkata in 1946 (1946-51) did specialisation in modelling and sculpture. He began his career as a freelance artist in Cuttack and started first bronze and marble sculpture in Odisha. He Joined as a Lecturer in Sculpture and Painting at Govt School of Art and Crafts Khallikote in 1957, retired as Principal in 1985 and died in 2009.

Binode Bihari Routray (1930-2005) was born in the village of Kalikapur, Cuttack, Odisha in 1930. He went to Kala Bhavan, Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan, did his specialisation in Graphic Art. He began his career as a lecturer in Graphic Art at Government School of Art and Crafts, Khallikote in 1967 retired as Principal (01/12/1985-31/12/1988) received State Lalit kala Akademi Award and died in 2005.

Rabi Narayan Nayak (1931-2008) Dharmapada Awardee was born in the village of Narendrapur, Bhadrak, Odisha in 1931. He went to Utkal School of Art and Crafts, Berhampur and Kala Bhavan, Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan (1950- 54), did his specialisation in Painting. He began his career as an instructor in Craft from 1957 to 1990 at Government School of Art and Crafts, Khallikote and died in 2008.

Durga Prasad Das, Dharmapada Awardee was born in the village of Dashapalla, Nayagada, Odisha in 1938. He went Kala Bhavan, Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan and did his specialisation in painting. He began his career as a lecturer in Indian Painting at Government School of Art and Crafts, Khallikote. In 1967 and retired as a principal (1989-1996) from the said college in 1996.

Basanta Panda was born in the village of Bhogarai, Balasore, Odisha in 1897. He went to Government School of Art and Crafts, Kolkata and did his specialisation in painting. He had begun his career as a freelance artist in Odisha.

Bimbadhar Barma (1901-1953) was born in the village of Kusupur, Jajpur, Odisha in 1901. He inspired from various art practices in India and juxtaposed them with social and cultural subjects of Odisha. He known for his heterogeneous styles of art in his entire life and died in 1953.

Gopal Kanungo (1904-1971) was born in a village of Puri, Odisha in 1904. He went to Government School of Art and Crafts, Kolkata and did his specialisation in Painting. He began his career as a lecturer in Government School of Art and Crafts, Khallikote in 1960, received State Lalit kala Akademi Award and died in 1971.

Bipin Bihari Chaudhry (1905-1982) was born in the village of Ulberia, Kolkata in 1905. He had taken admission in London School of Art and did his specialisation in Painting and honoured as the Associate Royal College of Art (A.R.C.A.) He began his career by joining as a lecturer at Government School of Art and Crafts, Khallikote in 1963 and died in 1982.

Upendra Maharathi (1908-1981) Padma Awardee was born in the village Narendrapur, Puri, Odisha in 1908. He went to Government School of Art and Crafts, Kolkata in1925 and did his specialisation in Painting. In 1942, he was appointed as a special Designer in the Department of Industry, Government of Bihar. His own artworks of about a thousand paintings, part of National Gallery of Modern Art (NGMA, New Delhi)’s vast collection, intimately fuses his life story with that of his art, blending modernity with a sense of community. His advocacy constructed the foundation of the Institute of Industrial Research in Patna in 1956. After his death Bihar government dedicated the Institute to his memory. It is now know as “Upendra Maharathi Shilp Anusandhan Sansthan”. He imbibed Western and indigenous techniques of art, craft, architecture and died in 1981.

Simhadri Maharana (1916- 1989) was born in the village of Sanari sahi, Jeypore, Odisha. He went to Government School of Art and Crafts, Madras and did his specialisation in Painting. He had begun his career as a freelance artist at Jeypore. In 1945 he joined as a Principal Incharge at Shri Bikram Government School of Art and Crafts, Jeypore and died in 1989.

Durga Prasad Pattanaik ( 1918-2002) was born in the village of Pasiapada, Puri, Odisha in 1918. He went to Lucknow School of Art and did his specialisation in painting. He was a great master of palm leaf etching and paintings. He received State Lalit kala Akademi Award of Odisha and died in 2002.

Jagannath Das was born in the village of Bhagalpur, Jagatsinghpur, Odisha in 1920. He went to Kala Bhavan, Visva Bharati Univiersity, Shantiniketan in 1946 and did his specialisation in Painting. In 1950 he joined as a designer in the deptt. Of State Handloom and Textile of Odisha. He received State Lalit kala Akademi Award and retired as a superintendent of State Handicraft Design Centre, Bhubaneswar (1968-78). After his retirement he worked for the development of Odishan Handicrafts.

Bibhuti Bhushan Kanungo (1921-1983) was born in the village of Salgaon, Cuttack Odisha in 1921. He had taken admission at Government School of Art and Crafts, Kolkata in 1939-43 and did his specialisation in Commercial Art. He went to cuttack in 1944 and established an art school from 1947 to 1950. He also established a block printing press and commercial art studio named” Ruparekha” and began his career as a designer in Industrial Department in 1947, received State Lalit kala Akademi Award and died in 1983. To honour him, the Govt. of Odisha has established an art and crafts college in Bhubaneswar in 1984 and named it as “B.K.College of Art and Crafts”.

Gauranga Charan Soam (1922-1989) was born in the village of Balasore, Odisha in 1922. He went to Kalabhavan, Visva Bharati University, Santiniketan, and did his specialisation in Painting. He began his career as a teacher in Birla Public School at Rajastan and developed his works in Rajasthan by inspiring from Indian style of paintings, Utkaliya Art Culture. He received State Lalit kala Akademi Award and his work has collected in many Galleries including Birla Akademi of Art. In his entire life he has done many works and died in 1989.

Laxmidhar Das (1927-2002) was born in Puri Town, Puri, Odisha in 1927. He went to Government School of Art and Crafts, Kolkata and did his specialisation in Painting. He started his career as an artist in Sishulekha magazine at Bhubanewar and received State Lalit kala Akademi Award. He became the Vice President of Odisha Lalit Kala Akademi and died in 2002.

Kalindi Vedan Jena (1929-2009) the Pioneer of Indian Ceramic Art, was born in the village of Indupur, Kendrapada, Odisha in 1929. He went to Sevagram, Wardha, Maharastra and introduced him as a ceramist in India. In 1967 he went to Faculty of Fine Arts, Banaras and developed the Ceramic Art. He received State Lalit kala Akademi Award and retired in 1995. In his career K V Jena had settled up a number of pottery centres combining traditional Indian values with modern ideas and utilitarian needs and died in 2009.

Nityananda Mahapatra (1931- 2004) Dharmapada Awardee was born in the village of Puri, Odisha in 1931. He went to Government School of Art and Crafts, Lucknow. He began his career as a lecturer in said School, Lucknow and retired. At the end of 20th century among four artists of Uttar Pradesh, he was the one of them. He received the highest award of Uttar Pradesh Lalitkala Akademi and died in 2004.

Gokul Bihari Patnaik (1932-2017) Dharmapada Awardee was born in the village of Olasingh, Khordha, Odisha in 1932. He went to Government School of Art and Crafts, Lucknow and did his specialisation in Commercial Art. He became the superintendent in Odisha Handicraft Training Centre, Bhubaneswar. In his life he has done many art works in wash painting and tempera techniques and died in 2017.

He began his career as a freelance artist and joined as lecturer at Government School of Art and Crafts, Khallikote in 1963 and died in 2017.

Bana Bihari Parida Dharmapada Awardee was born in the village of Kalyani Nagar, Cuttack Odisha in 1934. He went to Kala Bhavan, Visva Bharati University, Santniketan and did his specialisation in Printmaking. In 1965 he returned to Cuttack and then started his career as an artist in Ravenshaw College, Cuttack. In 2019 he contributed an annual award in his name called “Bana Bihari Parida Award” for Govt. College of Art and & Crafts, Khallikote. This award is to promote a best student of Printmaking Department in the said College.

Prafulla Mohanti was born in the village of Nanpur, Jajpur Odisha in 1936. He went to England in 1968 after graduating as an Architect in Bombay in 1964. He is often associated with the Neo-Tantric Art movement that emerged alongside modernism in India. Mr. Mohanti is very well known as a painter and writer.

Laxmi Narayan Sahu (1938- 2018) was born in the village of Odagaon, Nayagada, Odisha in 1938. He went to Government School of Art and Crafts, Khallikote and did his specialisation in Painting. He has done most of his art works in wash painting and tempera techniques. He died in 2018.

Chandra Sekhar Rao (1939-2003) was born in the village of Polasara, Ganjam, Odisha in 1939. He went to Government School of Art and Crafts, Khallikote and did his specialisation in Painting and received Odisha State Lalit kala Akademi Award. He became the Superintendent in Odisha Handicraft Training Centre, Bhubaneswar. In his life he has done many art works juxtaposing an unique technique and style with Indian miniature painting and died in 2003.

Harish Chandra Sinhababu (1939-2015) was born in the village of Baripada, Mayurbhanj, Odisha in 1939. He went to Government School of Art and Crafts, Kolkata and did specialisation in painting. In 1963 he came to Bhubaneswar and worked as an artist in State Museum of Odisha and received Odisha State Lalit kala Akademi Award. He is very well known for his portrait paintings and he died in 2015.

Jatin Das, The Padma Awardee was born in the village of Baripada, Mayurbhanj, Odisha in 1941. He went to J.J School of Art, Bombay and did his specialisation in Painting. In the year 2008, Jatin Das served as a visiting professor at the wellknown Jamia Millia Islamia University in New Delhi. From the year 2009 to 2011, he worked as visiting professor at the same university and received Dharmapda Award.

Padmanav Behera was born in the village of Kathagada Sahi, Cuttack, Odisha in 1941. He went to Government School of Art and Crafts, Khallikote and did his specialisation in Painting. In 1963 he came to Cuttack. His most of works are done in wash painting techniques with detail and clear brush strokes. He lives in Cuttack and received Odisha State Lalit kala Akademi Award.

Dr. Dinanath Pathy (1942-2016) Dharmapada Awardee was born in the village of Digapahandi, Ganjam, Odisha in 1942. He went to Government School of Art and Crafts, Khallikote and did his specialisation in Painting. He began his career as an artist in State Museum of Odisha. In 1984 he became the first principal of Govt. College of Art and Crafts, Bhubaneswar, which was renamed as B.K.College of Art and Crafts latter. In 1994 he joined as Secretary, National Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi. He was a great promoter of Odishan art and artists and died in 2016.

Debraj Sahu was born in the village Potarasahi, Ranpur Garh, Nayagarh, Odisha in 1941. He went to Government School of Art and Crafts, Khallikote and did his specialisation in Sculpture and received Odisha State Lalit kala Akademi Award. He joined as lecturer in B.K.College of Art & Crafts, Bhubaneswar and introduced “Terracotta” medium first time in art education in Odisha. He became the Master Craftsman in Odisha Handicraft Training Centre, Bhubaneswar. In his life he has done many experimental Terracotta art works and died in 2016.

D. N. Rao was born in the village of Bhanjanagar, Ganjam, Odisha in 1949. He went to Government School of Art and Crafts, Khallikote and did his specialisation in Printmaking and received Odisha State Lalit kala Akademi Award. He received Honorary Mentioned Award in Printmaking from Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi and became lecturer in B.K.College of Art & Crafts, Bhubaneswar and introduced “Serigraphy” medium first time in art education in the field of Printmaking . In his life he has done many art works juxtaposing a unique technique and style with Indian tribal motifs in painting and printmaking. Retired as Principal in Govt. College of Art & Crafts, Khallikote and died in 2017.

Jayant Kumar Das (1962) was born in the village Athilabaj, Balasore, Odisha in 1962. He went to Government School of Art and Crafts, Khallikote and did his specialisation in Modelling & Sculpture in 1978 and received Odisha State Lalit kala Akademi Award in 1996. He joined as Instructor in Modelling & Sculpture in B.K. College of Art & Crafts , Bhubaneswar and introduced “Bronze Casting” medium first time in Odishan art education in 1987. After joining as Lecturer in Crafts in the same college, he introduced “Ceramic process’’in 2007. In 2017 he became the Principal of Government College of Art & Crafts, Khallikote and started Ceramic process in this college in 2019. In his life he has done many drawings, Batik prints and sculptures in bronze, wood, stones and several mediums. His bronze-sculptures have displayed two times in Lalit Kala Akademi, New Delhi, and many times in Odisha Lalit Kala Akademi, South central Zone Cultural Centre and many more. After all he is most popular in making bronze sculpture have displayed in many private, government and public spaces in Odisha and abroad. He is live and working in his own studio at Bhubaneswar.
